My thoughts on Wonder Woman

I love Wonder Woman. I hate feminism. The movie was great. The storyline for the movie not so much. But I am still a fan. Here's why...

Hello, it’s me, Bad to the Blonde – Dani on the Daily and I am an anti-feminist and strong supporter of our President because I love the red, white and blue. Our President, nor my country, hasn’t oppressed me.  If you are a feminist woman – I wouldn’t waste your time reading this blog post. I think you are all making a fool out of strong women everywhere. You’ve already read enough. If you want to continue though then here is my Wonder Woman movie review. Rotten Tomatoes and Erbert and Gerbet’s, nor do the feminists, have shit on this. Hopefully you caught that joke – I am so funny – or maybe I am just hungry? I need a glass of wine…where you at Wonder Woman?

The price of feminism

I was attempting to watch the original Wonder Woman TV series from the 70s on my Dad’s Amazon Prime account before watching the Wonder Woman (2017) movie to compare the two, however, I made it to episode nine of season one…had a beer and went to the theater. And managed to spend only $32.83. Most likely, someone will have a dumb comment so let me just break it down for you. I spent: $13.16 on the AMC movie ticket and did have a reserved seat, and also prepaid for it so maybe that saved me a few bucks. $11.58 was for a vodka soda without enough vodka or soda. Finally, $8.09 was the whoppin’ price of medium popcorn – there was not a small option or I would have ordered that instead and had something with chocolate, too. I love going to the movies and wish I could once a week, to be honest! However, it could be a little cheaper.

And yes,  I am well aware that matinees are cheaper and I didn’t have small wine bottles at home to bring in my purse for booze. So shut it. I may be blonde, but I am smarter than you think.

It’s also not 1940. Or 1970.

I’m such a rule breaker.

I didn’t expect to laugh. But I did. A lot. I laughed. I laughed out loud! Let me also get this out there – Steve Trevor a.k.a. Chris Pine – are you single? Want to mingle? Hottie alert! Focus, blondie, focus.

This movie was awesome and I wasn’t about to wait for it to hit Netflix next year to see it. So I splurged. The special affects have come long ways in almost 40 years – I must add. Go back and humor yourself by watching the TV series – we’ve come along ways in recent years in both acting and production. Maybe that’s why I think it was so damn good?

We’ve come so far, men and women included

It was good because of the characters. It was good because of the special effects. It was good because of the buttered popcorn, the reclining seats and the cocktail. It was good because any age could watch it and learn from it. If I had kids, I would bring them to see it.

It was good because it brought us all back to days none, well most, of us could imagine living in – WW1. I don’t care how Wonder Woman depicted the war – I was about to lose it a few times thinking about all the people we lost on both sides in the war. Physically and mentally having to go through those moments and days. I love our troops. Like I’ve said a million times, I am so proud to be an American. I also am quite scared of what future war(s) could bring. And, history repeats itself.

I pray, there really is a real Wonder Woman out there and a land called Paradise Island. Batman and Spiderman – they can be real, too!

Side bar, I really want to go to Greece. I also want to train to be an Amazon. What an honor. Beauty crowns won’t do much good in real-life. Chemical warfare is some scary shit. Diamonds won’t hold much value…

Everyone made it seem like Miss Israel, Gal Gadot, from the 2004 pageant was some random human being cast to be the 2017 Wonder Woman. Or at least I did prior to some post movie Googling. I should have known that I’ve seen her face in the Fast to Furious movies as Gisele Yashar. Since I watched those movies hundreds of times, and Gone in 60 seconds is so much better and not even comparable, side bar.

But let’s talk feminism or anti-feminism and get to the point of this whole blog post, and her real life strength and relate-ability. She’s got the street cred to play this role. And her character, not her sex, is wholehearted. Real. Not stereotypical screenplay. At 20 years old when I was drinking the occasionally vodka soda in college, Gal Gadot was a combat trainer serving for two years as an enlisted soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. And to think training for Snocross (snowmobile racing) was even comparable. Or this fitness competition I want to do in September.

If this is supposed to be a depiction of feminism – I think it’s wrong to see the film in this manner. even if you are a feminist (surprised, you’re still reading). And I am not believing it’s feminist message. Hello, it’s 2017, and yes the Women’s March was the dumbest thing I’ve seen to-date. (So are hairy armpits. It’s disgusting. You are not a bad ass – that is bad hygiene and laziness to not groom yourself.) I don’t think a real-life Wonder Woman would have joined. She doesn’t need to and has better shit to do. She ran away from her fellow Amazon’s because she had better things to do with her voice, strength and beauty. I like her sex apparel. Side bar.

Wonder Woman’s viewpoints and characteristics reflect those of her creator, William Moulton Marston, who was a strong supporter of feminist ideals and female empowerment:

“(She) encourages women to stand up for themselves, to learn to fight, and be strong, so they don’t have to be scared, or depend on men”.

Why is this whole thing about feminism? Why is this about men ? She is fighting EVIL. Isn’t she? So men are evil? All men? Isn’t evil hurt and destruction? War? I think anyone is capable of being evil. Evil has no sex.

Being strong is sexy and sexiness knows no gender

I do relate to her though. And that isn’t something characterized or categorized by feminist or anti-feminist. I relate to Wonder Woman for her strength, courage, bravery and beauty. Her mission to (attempt) to serve and help others when possible before helping herself. Anyone can learn to fight for who they want to be, what they want to become, and what they want to accomplish. Having faith knows no sex.

Being strong – knows no sex.

Being scared – knows no sex.

And I like to depend on men. Just like I like to depend on women. William Moulton Marston, I think you got this wrong.

To want to make the world a better place and for the dream of making evil and war into love and peace, isn’t men nor woman (sex) based. I am not talking about unicorns, butterflies, and Adam and Eve. These aren’t things and dreams that just feminists do or don’t do – that’s something we all should do. That has jack shit to do with gender equality and biological differences. She was in the same “fight scenes”. Steve and her went the same way. Same end goal…

She was on a mission she was born to do. Baby, she’s born with it. We know it wasn’t “maybe”. Maybelline your slogan sucks, too. And you test on animals. Once again, you suck.

Wonder Woman

What I think is cool about the significant of the Wonder woman character and for Gadot herself, is that for the rest of her life and 75 years post Wonder Woman, she is an ambassador. She will remain an image. I, sadly, don’t think Lynda Carter, was capable of such impact for her character nor she had that influence post-show. Maybe she needed to lace up some combat boots? Get a little more street cred – she had the beauty pageant titleholder part covered. Maybe, the times have changed…but then again, you can be both strong, powerful, beautiful and a team player…it takes two to tango, baby.

Gadget is a symbol of empowerment for girls, yes. But boys, too. Which I hate that word “empowerment” because of feminism and the feminists who use it put such a bad sigma on the word…so let’s go with “strength” instead because we’re all in this together and strength is for anyone who wants to find it. And I like that word better. News flash, feminists. She is a symbol for all girls. All boys! Men and women alike! We are capable of using he strength of their body, mind and soul, to be all that we can be!

Bravery and beauty

To me, this movie was in no way a feminist “women aren’t equal to men” comparison of women to men and/or men to women. I think it is a great comparison of determination and motivation. Aren’t we (all) on a mission to find out what we were put here on earth to do? Wonder Woman and Steve both knew their missions…

Wonder Woman should (and is not to me) an iconic example of feminist or a continuing symbol of female empowerment. Wonder Woman is an iconic example of passion, heart, love and strength. She is a symbol of bravery.

She needs to be more of a recognized symbol of love and not war. Anti-femiism vs. feminism. Note the order. But let’s wrap this up and talk about her as a symbol because we can’t argue that!

The USPS celebrates feminism

I bought these Wonder Woman stamps on February 9, at the United States Postal Service long before this movie came out because they stood out to me as a symbol of bravery, strength and art. I didn’t buy them because of the movie. That came second. I didn’t see them as a symbol of women empowerment. I saw them as some bad ass stamps with good artwork. I saw them like they were like each pieces of art – sticky art. Like pop art! Well, to be honest, first I saw the bold primary colors (red, blue and yellow) and that caught my eye, and the realized they were Wonder Woman! Men and women both like similar colors, FYI. Google it. I thought, “how cool”! And, I had to have them and now they are like too cool to use them.

That was then. This is now. I only have a few left and they are a collectors item since it’s been 75 years. It’s all about the art which is what drew me in before I knew it was Wonder Woman.

This article is a must-read with some cool info. Wonder Woman’s 75th Anniversary Celebrated on Forever Stamps I am going to go back tomorrow and hopefully buying another pack to keep them if they still have them, and I am starting a stamp collection. Okay, these will probably be the only stamps in my stamp collection. I found them pretty.  Like they should be sent with something important and so far they have been and because of Wonder Woman – no mail has been lost!

Shoutout to the USPS for finally doing something right. I mean, thanks Wonder Woman for delivering my mail!

What are your thoughts on Wonder Woman? I don’t care what you think of feminism or anti-feminism either. I think they are both stupid and why we have to have such categories and beliefs today is not “Woman Woman-like”. She had a passion for all things but evil. Wonder Woman today would not be a feminist. She would be a bad ass, mother fucker, because strong is beautiful. And bravery knows no sex.

Though I don’t believe that she is the “ultimate ‘female’ Super Hero, a true symbol of equality and justice” – I think she is an ultimate Super Hero in general. I think it is cool to be a supporter of Wonder Woman’s evolution and her symbolism but as a super Hero in general and not as a woman – because that is feminist.

I wish I would have started collecting stamps a long time ago, because this is cool.

“As an artist you hope that your work might endure, like the character of Wonder Woman herself,” added Chiang. “To see something I drew immortalized on a U.S. Postal Service stamp is really an incredible honor, and hopefully a fitting tribute to 75 years of strength and imagination.”

Hopefully by now, or if you are new to my blog, you’ve caught that I am a sarcastic, anti-feminist, and not a professional movie critic, either. And I will pretend to be a Wonder Woman of sorts when I see fit…or maybe Wine Woman…I think I am onto something…

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world’s waiting for you,
and the power you possess.

In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.

Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.

Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned upon you.
And the magic that you do.

Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fold,
Change their minds,
and change the world.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You’re a wonder, Wonder Woman.

The whole point of this is not love “Trumps” hate. It is MAKING LOVE NOT WAR. We all can learn a few things from Wonder Woman. No satin tights needed. Feel free to bring your red, white and blue.

Be classy, sassy and a strong bad ass soul. The end.
