Hello, it’s me Bad to the Blonde. Covid won’t crush my dream of a European summer vacation after-all…turns out I didn’t need a plan ticket, just a crochet cover-up, wood clutch, and a cocktail. You know that saying if you can’t stop thinking about it buy it? I added this travel ready textile to the cart one too many times over the last year and now it’s in my closet! Thanks Nasty Gal for the promo code. I was actually surprised to see that it was still available, so I didn’t hesitate to use the promo code in a recent email to snag it 60% off! It was an original $80 price tag!
Swim season is still on
My choice of clothing with coverage during the summer has surprisingly become much smaller and more revealing as I’ve aged, but less can be more with a little layering! This also requires being able to “pull it off” (pun intended) if I need to go some place in public. With cheeky, European bikini bottoms and thongs trending, and the “if you can’t tone it tan it” mentality, a cover up is a swim essential. So whether you’re chilling in the shade or having fun in the sun, put together a wet-to-ready outfit so you’re prepared to go more places than just the beach.
As you can see, a crocheted dress scores with added sleeves to provide additional coverage if you want to wear a neutral bikini underneath. (If I owned a one-piece, I would have worn it. Another summer essential that I seem to be missing…) The woven textile trend that includes crochet, knits and mesh, gives off this sense of timelessness that you’ll want to touch for years to come. Grandma would be proud to see this blast from the past, and I plan on strutting this sexy piece from the pool right into next season. After all, there is talk that seasonality in fashion is somewhat coming to an end.
Don’t forget to cover-up with shades and sunscreen
What’s cool about the recent swim trends is that they pull double-duty, which means that the right styles can take to the street. To do that you’ll need trending accessories to transition this beachy look from day to night, or at least have the ability to look stylish AF chilling with a cocktail or stripping down to reapply sunscreen.
A wood clutch is the perfect size for shades and a bottle of SPF. Slip on bright colored sandals with a heel to add a pop of color and a sexy strut without all the straps. Retro square sunglasses play to the pattern in this dress, yet are a modern accessory. As I look through my summer essentials to take me poolside, I’m still in need of a crochet pant for versatility and I am feeling the two-piece mesh sets that are trending, too. This right cover-up styled into an outfit has me craving a Greek getaway or at least a fancy BBQ.
Oh, and Araya Photography and me are back on the blog.
